For players to complete the first episode of Wintermute in The Long Dark, they must know how to unlock the bank vault.
The Long Dark just released its story mode. Titled Wintermute, Episode 1: Do Not Go Gentle features several main and side quests that can leave even veteran players puzzled. In fact, to progress the main story, players will have to get into the bank vault, which requires several steps along the way.
How to Open the Bank Vault
The first step to opening the bank vault is to head to the Milton Credit Union, just across the street from Grey Mother’s house. Head inside and look for an office on the right. Inside the office is a desk. Open the desk and you will find the Bank Manager’s House Key.
Head to the Bank Manager’s House, located on the east section of Milton. You’ll recognized the house because it’s a row back from the main street. It also has small steps leading to the front door, and a Canadian flag hanging outside. There will be a blue truck and wheel barrel outside. Use the key to open the front door.
Head into the bedroom and look for the night stand that has an alarm clock on it. Loot the drawer and you will find the Bank Vault Code. The code is 19-30-08. However, you cannot open the vault until you jump through these hoops. The option simply isn’t there when you try to open it without finding the Bank Vault Code. In order to turn the tumblers, you have to use the left/right controls, or A/D on PC. Make sure you cross over 0 if you make a mistake.
Head back to the Milton Credit Union and approach the vault. You will now be able to interact with the lock. Put in the code in and the vault door will open, giving you access to loot and several Bank Deposit Boxes. That’s your next mountain to climb; opening the four safety deposit boxes found inside the bank vault.
