Monster Hunter World is exactly one week away from its official release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. On January 26th, players will be allowed to head to Astera and start taking on contracts to cull the local wildlife. Of course, that wildlife is mostly monsters and players won’t just be hunting out of the kindness of their heart, but rather to gather enough loot and materials to become the greatest monster hunter in the world. We can’t wait! Sorry, PC gamers, you will still have to wait.

While the game is still a week away, the final open beta is now live on the PlayStation 4. Sorry Xbox fans, you’re missing out again. Available in the PlayStation Store, the 5.5GB download will let players explore a variety of Monster Hunter World content throughout the entire weekend. If you’ve already played in phase 1 or 2 of the beta, you won’t even have to download anything. Just jump in and start swinging that sword, or … shooting those arrows, or whatever you prefer.

Here’s what you’ll be able to try out during the beta:

  • Play single player or multi player
  • Take on these four different monsters in four different quests of varying difficulty:
    • “Great Devourer, Great Jagras” – Great Jagras Hunt in the Ancient Forest
    • “Wildspire Rampage” – Barroth Hunt in Wildspire Waste
    • “The Ancient Forest Menace” – Anjanath Hunt in the Ancient Forest
    • “The Insatiable Nergigante” – Nergigante Hunt in Wildspire Waste
  • Choose from one of six pre-defined female or male characters
  • Test out voice and text chat
  • Use the training area to play around with all 14 different weapon archetypes

Progress earned in the beta will reset before launch, in fact, it will reset each time you launch the beta. However, players who participate in the beta will unlock certain rewards for the full game. Completing a single quest will earn the player a customizable Face Paint, and completing all four quests will lead to item sets containing lifepowder, max potions, shock traps, and other useful items. Sounds like our weekend is all planned out now, so get going and join us in preparing for Monster Hunter World! We’ll be bringing you lots of guide content for this game over the next several weeks, so be sure to keep an eye on our Monster Hunter World game page.
