Fromsoft could never be accused of making boring games. Over recent years, they have delved into the strange worlds of Bloodborne and Dark Souls, where the bleak hopelessness of their worlds is often mirrored by the pain that players feel trying to finish them.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is their newest title, and we got a full trailer (take note, Bethesda) to get our blood pumping. The trailer is sparse on details, but big on mystery, just the way we like our Fromsoft games. You play a wounded warrior. He has, at some point, lost an arm, only to have it replaced with some form of proxy built of bone and metal. The movement systems looks more dramatic than we are used to, with grappling and high jumping featuring heavily in the trailer. The trick weapon idea from Bloodborne seems to be returning, as the limb appears to change into an axe and a shield at different points.

Large and intimidating bosses are also featured, as well as the Fromsoft stalwart of a long rope bridge crossing a threatening looking canyon that is almost certainly going to kill us. Combat looks fast and visceral, while the name of the game also might just be a mechanic, as we see our protagonist rise from the dead to continue the fight. I also hope we get a lot of that narrator’s voice in the game, his voice is simply amazing.

This was featured as part of the Microsoft conference, but there is no reason for anyone to worry, as it will release on PS4, PC and Xbox One some time in 2019. It should be noted that this game does imply that we might not be seeing a Bloodborne 2 announcement from Sony this year. That said, it is hard to know as many developers out there seem to be willing to have more than one iron in the fire at this year’s E3.
